Rethinking the American Dream
Time is our worst enemy. When you are young you just worry about living life and working to build something in the future. we all are constantly pursuing the American Dream, and as long as we are alive it will never be accomplished.New technologies are constantly being created so we also have to update ourselves. To some that means buying the new items that come out. As human beings we always want bigger and better than others no matter what the cost. At the beginning of the class Fear & Loathing talks directly about the American dream, In the matter of making life as easy as possible.Indian killer, Beloved, and Woman Warrior were stories about a select group of people going through some type of struggle for a positive result or a better outcome. Some may not have the means of making it as far as they want to and other might have more tools at their disposal. If you work hard with a little push behind you anything is possible to accomplish.

Gender roles
Gender roles are so called " assumed rolls that. They especially influence relationships between men and women.Gender roles have been changing in Western society in recent decades, and generally have become more flexible. However, traditional gender roles still have some influence. For example, it used to be expected that men would experiment sexually before marriage, but that women would not. Women who went against this expectation were considered "loose" or "fallen" women, while men who went against the expectation were considered less than manlyYears ago another expectation was that women were supposed to get married and stay home to raise a family. The man was expected to go out to work to support his family. Today there is more sharing of family and household responsibilities, and both males and females are working in less traditional careers. For exaple we haveboth male and female nurses, firefighters, engineers, dentists etc.
Woman Warrior
Each chapter focuses on a woman that affects Kingston's life, and in most cases depicts how that woman relates to the male-dominated society around her. However, it is often not the men themselves who are most oppressive in the memoir, but rather the power of tradition as carried through women Woman warrior is your typical story about a heroine saving other even though their own lives are at risk. She fights about what she believes in. During the time girls/woman were treated like slaves to the men. Much of The Woman Warrior is a struggle is between mother and daughter, daughter and society, and so on. It makes the warrior motif especially appropriate. Fa Mu Lan, the true warrior, becomes the standard by which Kingston measures herself. Though in some ways Kingston comes up wanting comparing herself to the mythical female warrior, she discovers that the very act of writing is both a battle and a victory. Brave Orchid at times a warrior, at times an inspiration to her daughter, and at times a bitter enemy.
Beloved represented what might be seen as a taboo subject to talk about to other people. A family who loses a daughter at a young age and has her come back as a spirit or embodiment of the sixty million or all the children lost. She comes back as the age she would probably been or lived to. The sixty million lost is all those who died because of slavery. I think sometimes we have to ask questions that we think shouldn't be asked. Subjects like Beloved are good to talk about and analyze because they are based on true events. I think we tend to relate better to stories about someone or a group of people suffering. It is human nature to care about those who suffered even though we can not expreienece the same things they went through.
